How was The Lego Movie made?

I am 15 years old, and have always been VERY interested in growing up and making stop-motion based movies like The Nightmare Before Christmas, and especially The Lego Movie. How was The Lego Movie made? I assume it was made with some sort of stop-motion, but how did they make everything look SOOO smooth? And how can I get involved in creating things like this when I grow older? Thank you SoOOooOOo much for your answers, and I WILL be sure to choose a Best Answer!

It's actually not made with any form of stop motion. The entire movie is CGI (obviously save for the live-action acting bits), only made to look like stop motion to replicate how kids actually place with real toys--with jerky movements, etc.
