Not only is origami a beautiful art, but it also plays an important part in our daily life, which most people don't realize - think "airbags" in cars for example. I could go on and on about the subject since I'm an avid folder myself, instead I'd like you to watch this clip with Robert E. Lang who explains in an 18 minute lecture about the history of origami and how important it is nowadays:

Origami is important to some people, while it's not to others.

One reason why it may be to samoe is that if you're in the paper folding business, you'd want some one who knows their geometry and paper arts to be doing your work.

It is an art and some medical devices have been based on origami
