Question:
Translucent Liquid Sculpey Won't Work?

I put TLS on my polymer clay charms, and I bake them at 275 for fifteen minutes, which I know is the correct baking temperature and time. Then, when I take them out, the TLS has disappeared. I'm really disappointed. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

First, the brand of liquid polymer clay put out by Polyform/Sculpey called "Translucent Liquid Sculpey" is more or less matte unless it's pooled or perhaps in thin layers. Even then it's not as clear or glossy as the two other brands of liquid clay (one no longer being made).

TLS is not considered a "gloss finish" for polymer clay**, but can be used to seal certain materials or hold them on the surface of the clay or strengthen the clay or even fabric, etc, when used as a coating, as well as being used in many other ways (adhesive, transfers, thinning solid polymer clay, tinted for jellies/etc on mini foods, etc).

You can read all about liquid polymer clays, as well as the clear finishes usually used on polymer clay, in my answers here and on some of the pages at my site listed in them:

** Gloss finishes used on polymer clay are most often gloss polyurethanes or clear liquid polishes for vinyl/wood floors (both water-based). Those are the toughest clear finishes and preferred by most experienced clayers, but other materials will create gloss surfaces as well.
