So for an art project I have to make a ceramic piece using mostly the slab method. I have been thinking about ideas for a while now, but I'm drawing a blank. Any ideas? It must be functional (not just for decoration). I'm a beginner too, so don't make forming/painting it too hard. Thanks!

OK. Rolling pin, wrapped in news paper. Roll out clay. Wrap around the rolling pin. Another slab on one end, and cut around, forming a base. Remove rolling pin. Let dry to leather hard. Cover with coloured slip. Draw an image or picture onto tracing paper. Wrap the paper around the leather hard pot. Use a pencil to go over the traced image, leaving the impression on the pot. Use a scraping tool to cut away the colour to show the image that you have made on the pot. Fire to 850. Clear glaze. Fore to 1000.

You can also use plaster of paris to mold slabs into plates and platter, again using slip to make designs.

Different pieces of slabs can be glazed and, if you have holes in them, joined together by wires to create a wall mounted picture, like an exploded diagram.

Hope this helps.

Building - either as a bank with slot for putting money in or as box with whole roof coming off as lid. Chimney or roof decoration as knob.

Square or 3, 5, 6 or more sided cookie jar (with lid) or vase.
