Question:
How permanent are permanent glue dots?

I have a paper sculpture that I need to assemble. The curved parts are to be glued together and then suspended from the ceiling. Each piece is somewhat weighty... 8 oz + maybe. (So after about three pieces, the dots would have to hold 1.5 lbs + in some cases depending on leverage etc...) Eventually the sculpture will hang in our entrance way, so I need something that will last and last. I was told that glue dots are the most convenient and wouldn't show, but how strong are they? Has anyone used them for such an application with success? I'm considering the permanent kind only so if you have experience with the permanent kind, I would truly appreciate your input.

Thanks

I would use them with caution in this application, testing them before trusting a project. Too many times I have used glue/adhesive backed products that were clearly intended to be permanent only to have the adhesive slide sideways under the constant stress you are talking about. I haven't used these but the example projects I find on the Internet don't show hanging. I would take some stiff paper and put dots on it and hang it the worst way - like an open mouth V with weight on the bottom and see if it peels off.

One glue I would trust, but you would have to check if it discolors or distorts the paper, is GOOP Craft which is a silicone adhesive that sets up hard. http://www.mikegigi.com/glues.htm#E-6000
