I'm doing crafts in copper. Mostly wall hangings and I want some color other than natural copper or patina. I've seen it in other sculptures but don't know how to achieve that look. I'm working inside for now and a flame can't be used. Is there a chemical I can use? Appreciate any ideas.

yes, that's what a patina does. You will need good ventilation, so it's not really an indoor thing either.

go to the link, somebody posted a number of receipes. But you may not have everything at home.

Liver of sulphur should turn copper black, it will work as a cold patina, but faster hot (with torch). Usually you rub part of it off to create highlights.

Try also vinegar and salt water (slow though)

Different colored shoe pastes will also change the look of the copper to some extend. They are at least safe to use.

There is a liquid you can coat it with and when it dries it will leave a patina. Depending on what chemical you use, you get different colors. Sorry I don't know what the chemicals are. Look in a craft store or online for copper patina or something.

you can use plain old vinegar, salt and water, or ammonia (use good ventilation) or baking soda. just leaving it outside will do it too. There are several chemical products that metal crafting suppliers can sell you. Read something about metal crafting and you will get lots of ideas.

there is, but i don't remember its name. If you take a torch to certain pennies or copper of a certain age, they will turn sort of iridescent
