I need to make an impression of a small metal part to be sent to manufacture for part number ID.
What would be a material I could use to make this impression without bonding to the part?

They can't do it from a picture sent electronically.

Pressing the part into modeling clay (oil moistened earth clay, never hardening, like kids play with) will give an impression of one side. It won't bond although being a close fit, it may have to be gently pried out. If you wish, you could make a hard copy of the piece by mixing a small batch of plaster of Paris and putting it in the mold. Or you could refer here http://mikegigi.com/modeling.htm for making latex rubber molds to mold plaster or wax
