(: hello! I decided to be adventurous and make my own pinata instead of buying one. I used a beach ball instead of a balloon because I needed it a little bigger, and used online instructions. I mixed 2 cups flour and 3 cups water and dipped newspaper in that and covered my beach ball. Ive done like 7 layers already over the past few days and the stupid thing isn't really hard! it's dry, but like you can easily break it. I want a challenging piƱata! what am I doing wrong?

Most real pinatas have cardboard inside that's covered with the paper mache. If you just use the newspaper it's going to be very thin. You won't be able to make a very sturdy one without the cardboard. Using a balloon is a really quick and easy way to make a pinata for decoration, it's not a very good way to make one to use.

If I were you I would skip the beach ball. It's too hard to pop and get out. You can use one to set the cardboard armature on, but remove it before you start applying the paper mache.

I hope this helps.

well you should start by creating the pinata around the balloons and leave a small candy sized spot not paper mache'd around the knot keeping the balloon tied. do a few layers of paper mache to make it pretty strong and then let it dry. once it's dry pop the balloon fill will candy and cover the hole with more paper mache hope that helps!
