Well it depends on what sort of modelling clay you are using, there are lots on the market that will harden at room temperature like DAS, its important that clay cant be tooo thick or it will harden on the outside but take forever in the middle.
You can always use your kitchen oven ?

You can't. True modeling clay (not something else with "modeling clay" tacked on) is oil and wax moistened earth clay and will never harden permanently although it stiffens when chilled. It is used for making original models from which casts are made. You chose the wrong product if you want a hard original.

Lately, some makers have been calling some of their air-dry, polymer, or paper clay products modeling clay in part of the description because you can push clay around (model) but all clays do that. The adjective required to tell how to bake/dry those.

Alai,modeling clay is not mainly for the kiln,ceramic clay is for the kiln to harden.
