I've just begun getting interested in this.. And i'm just wondering what i'd use to make clay shiny and glossy on the outside? What is it called that i should use?

You have to buy clear varnish and apply it with a soft brush after the paint or the pottery dries,

Don’t use actual varnish. That’s oil based and will never dry on polymer clay. No oil based product will, including oil paints (unless they are heat settable.)
You need a water based glaze; they make them especially for polymer clay, but I use modge podge. (Available at wal-mart) any type of air drying glaze that boasts of a “soap and water clean up” will work just fine.

You can use a polymer clay safe glaze or you can sand the piece using successively finer grits of wet/dry sandpaper, then buff with a muslin wheel.
