I'm 13 years old and looking for a way to make a realistic mermaid myself(I'm into arts and crafts) I want to make one because 1 I can't afford to ask my parents to get me one since its more than $100 and 2 I want to make it myself so it can be original. Can you guys be nice and tell me what tools and things I need to make my tail? Also be as detailed and understandable writing( again I'm only 13 so I don't understand many BIG words!) also I already know I need
*Foam
*Neoprene
*nylon
*silicone

What else do I need and where can I buy it?
~Thanks for your help and time!❤

IF by "H2O mermaid tail" you mean one that you can take in the water, then you will spend more than $100 to make one (and I am surprised to find you can get one that low.) The costly part is making the mold that makes a realistic looking tail that will not drive your lower body to the surface.

Most of the mermaid tails used by performers in shows like Wiki wachee consist of fairly thin fabric sewn to be pretty form fitting so not much water is trapped inside and little foam is used to produce an outline of the tail with little lift.

One way of looking it is to make a tight fitting skirt (hobble) that goes to the toes and then flare a cloth pad to make a tail shape.

Sorry, but you cannot make a realistic mermaid tail for $100. Neoprene and silicone alone cost more than that.

If you drop the "realistic" you can make a fabric tail, which can be done for about $60. You just need swimsuit fabric and a monofin (plus threads and needles or a sewing machine). Here is a great tutorial to make a fabric tail:

If you think you cannot do it, there are options that are not very expensive. This vendor makes fabric tails with a printed scale patter in gold (like the ones in H2O):

If you think they are too expensive and cannot ask your parents to buy it, save for it yourself. Here is a video that gives plenty of ideas to save up money:

Good luck!

get someone to make a plaster cast of your body, (you really just need the lower half of your body cast for the mermaid tail) You probably should like coat your lower body in saran wrap, or oil, or something that to make the plaster not stick to you, also shave your legs, or the plaster will pull out all of your hairs. Also make sure to put something between the edges of the two sides(back and front) so the back and front of the cast dont stick together, forcing someone to cut you out. Then wait for the plaster to almost fully dry on you. then take it off and let it fully dry. Then grease up the halves of the mold with mold release, or something of the sort. Next, stick the two halves together and mix up some fiberglass resin. Pour it in and let it set. Once it has dried almost fully, pull/cut the mold off and let it fully dry. If you let it fully dry inside the cast it might fuze to the cast, even with the mold release.
